Let the tomato games begin!

The weather is nuts and I think it is starting to affect my mental health. I *somehow* managed to plant 72 tomato seedlings this afternoon while fielding an onslaught of calls, texts and emails (technically I was on lunch break but you know how us small biz folks can’t quit working for more than 5 minutes at a time).

So here’s what I’ve started:

  1. Super Sioux – is an impressive slicing tomato with an exquisite blend of acid, sweet, and earthy flavors. ‘Super Sioux’ produces heavily until frost. Indeterminate. Planting depth: .25 inches. Days to germination: 6-10 days. 75-85 days to maturity.
  2. San Marzanois a classic Italian heirloom paste tomato with a slightly hourglass shape. ‘San Marzano Paste’ tomatoes are later season than other paste types, providing an extended harvest for saucing until the first hard frost. Flavorful cooking tomato. Needs trellising Planting depth: .25 inches. Days to germination: 6-10 days. 80-90 days to maturity.
  3. Tigerella – produces tomatoes with fine, tangy flavor that are uniquely red and orange striped. Highly productive. Indeterminate. Planting depth: .25 inches. Days to germination: 3-8 days. 55-65 days to maturity.
  4. Stupice – was bred in Czechoslovakia, this is an extremely early, prolific variety with exceptional taste. ‘Stupice’ has dense, potato-like foliage on dwarf, indeterminate vines. Planting depth: .25 inch. Days to germination: 6-8 days. 60-70 days to maturity.
  5. Marvel Striped – produces 10-16 oz. fruits. Another great tomato from the Zapotec people. ‘Marvel Striped’ tomatoes are sweet and juicy with few seeds. Indeterminate. Planting depth: .25-.5 inches. Days to germination: 7-14 days. 90-110 days to maturity.
  6. Brandywineis an oversized 10-16 oz. beauty. ‘Brandywine’ is considered by many to have the finest flavor of all heirloom tomatoes. Thin-skinned variety has balanced acid/sweet taste. Indeterminate, potato-leafed vine. Planting depth: .25 inch. Days to germination: 3-8 days. 75-90 days to maturity.
  7. Arkansas Traveler – is incredibly delicious. This classic pink heirloom has traveled widely because of its solid dependability and distinct flavor. ‘Arkansas Traveler’ tolerates high heat and humidity and is resistant to cracking. Indeterminate. Planting depth: .25 inches. Days to germination: 3-8 days. 80-90 days to maturity.
  8. Thessaloniki – has a taste as beautiful as the Greek island where it originated. ‘Thessaloniki’ is mildly earthy, slightly acidic. The flavor ranked high in our taste tests. Indeterminate. Resists sun scald and cracking. (65-70 days) Planting depth: .25 inches. Days to germination: 10-14 days. 66-72 days to maturity.
  9. Black Krimproduces large (10-12 oz.), maroon-skinned beefsteak tomato with a greenish interior surrounding the seeds. ‘Black Krim’ offers a rich, full flavored tomato on an indeterminate vine. Planting depth: .25-.5 inch. Days to germination: 6-8 days. 80 days to maturity.
